Information about the project

We are seeking a highly motivated PhD student to join our dynamic research team in a joint project between Chemistry and Biochemistry at Chalmers University of Technology and the Department of Experimental Medical Science at the Faculty of Medicine at Lund University. This position will involve using mass spectrometry to study molecular changes caused by diseases such as cancer and other non-communicable diseases.

Major responsibilities

Your major responsibilities are to pursue your own doctoral studies. You are expected to develop your own scientific concepts and communicate the results of your research verbally and in writing. The position generally also includes teaching on Chalmers' undergraduate level or performing other duties corresponding to 20 per cent of working hours.

  • Understanding the molecular changes connected to disease.
  • Studying the isotopic fine structure of altered molecules.
  • Developing protocols for sample handling of cells and tumor tissue.
  • Performing laboratory work and sample preparation.
  • Conducting mass spectrometry analysis using multiple techniques including HR-LC-MS, TOF-SIMS, MALDI, and MRMS.
  • Interpreting complex mass spectrometry data.
  • Applying machine learning to process mass spectrometry data.

Qualifications

To qualify for the position, you must hold an MSc degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Biotechnology, Biochemical engineering, Biochemistry or similar. Fluent English in writing and speaking, strong communication and analytical skills are also required.

Research experience from work with analytical chemistry, mass spectrometry, machine learning/programming and/or cancer biology is meritorious.

Contract terms

Full-time temporary employment. The position is limited to a maximum of five years.
