Jobbannons

We are looking for a post-doctoral researcher to help us explore pressure-induced phase transformations in high entropy alloys using in situ synchrotron diffraction and spectroscopy. If you are interested in combining advanced large-scale facility experimentation with in-depth material science and solid state physics knowledge, this is the position for you.

Information about the project

The vast range of chemical compositions offered by high entropy alloys have opened new possibilities for fundamental studies to increase our understanding of phase stability and selection in metallic systems. One intriguing phenomenon is the pressure-induced polymorphism observed in face-centered cubic high entropy alloys. It has been observed in several alloys, but the fundamental mechanisms is still unknown. Your task will be to address this knowledge gap for a specific alloy system - CoCrFeMnNi - through high-pressure synchrotron experiments.

Information about the division and the department

The position is placed in the Division of Microstructure Physics at the Department of Physics. The research in the group is centered around the use of advanced materials characterization techniques, such as electron microscopy, atom probe tomography, and X-ray and neutron scattering, to understand the structure and properties of engineering materials. Our overall goal is to contribute to a sustainable society through development of new or improved structural and functional materials.

Major responsibilities

Your major responsibility will be to conduct your own research as part of a research group. The position may also include supervision of PhD, MSc and BSc students to a certain extent.

Qualifications

To qualify for the position you must hold a PhD degree in physics, chemistry, or materials science, awarded no more than three years prior to the application deadline. Exceptions from the 3-year limit can be made for longer periods resulting from parental leave, sick leave or military service*. Experience of high-pressure diffraction and/or spectroscopy experiments using diamond anvil cells is mandatory. Experience of techniques such as X-ray magnetic circular dichroism or X-ray emission spectroscopy is a merit, as is knowledge of magnetism, magnetic measurements and magnetic properties of materials.

The position requires sound verbal and written communication skills in English. Swedish is not a requirement but Chalmers offers Swedish courses.

You are expected to be somewhat accustomed to teaching, and to demonstrate good potential within research and education.

  • The date shown in your doctoral degree certificate is the date we use, as this is the date you have met all requirements for the doctoral degree.

Contract terms

This postdoc position is a full-time temporary employment for two years.
